The Ghost and the Grimoire

Confederate Soldier Elliott Stone made numerous mistakes in his life. When he betrayed his comrades, he was tortured and murdered. For over a century and a half , his only refuge has been the sanctuary of the house built where he took his last breath. He was content in his solitude…until she came and disrupted his whole world. Daniella Yankovich inherited the beautiful Colonial Home. It came at a time she needed tranquility and peace from the N.Y. rat race. Little did she know her fortuitous blessing came with a cantankerous spirit. Now a Civil War of wills in the house has begun. Will the North prevail or will the South rise again?

I thought this was such an awesome book, it was hard to put down and I didn’t want it to end. The two main characters Dani and Eli were wonderful, the things that a person can do for true love is amazing. I give this book five stars and two thumbs up. Laura Hawks is an amazing as well as a talented author and looking forward to reading more of her books in the future, I have found another favorite author. Two cheers for Laura Hawks!

4 He doesn’t want her there. She’s not leaving.

Short over all: The book was a good read. The characters were wild and fun. The love between the ghost and the girl came on fast but natural. The blasts from the past were good read too. See what happens when a girl gets a house that used to belong to a man ages ago, now he’s dead and a ghost haunting his home. He doesn’t want her there. She’s not leaving.

I really liked the concept of the story, blending the past with the present. The story was easy to follow, the pace kept you interested, and the characters were engaging. I’d recommend the book, it’s a good summer read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn’t Put It Down

The Ghost and the Grimoire was riveting! I had trouble putting the book down. I am not that much a fan of Civil War stories and yet, the author brought the war to life – it was like being on the battle field with Eli. I had to look up the word Grimoire, as I had never heard of it — for others who haven’t “a book of magic spells and invocations.” I fell in love with Eli and Dani and couldn’t wait to see what happened next.

Anyone who is interested in historical novels, Native American stories, love stories, magic or trips to hell and back needs to buy this book. Guess that is just about everyone who reads. I have read Laura Hawks other books, and this is the best yet!

I like the way Ms Hawks interaction with Danny and the ghost. the first encounter between them was comic, A different reaction to a ghost. Her desire to save Elliot from his tortures showed humanity. I wanted to get through the The trails they had to go through in Hell (may of been my mood at the time, but I just wanted them to end.). Was a surprise ending when they did get completed. This was a very different story line for Ms. Hawks. She is growing in her writing a branching out of her comport zone, I believe.
I enjoy all of Ms Hawks novels and will continue to purchase her works.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ghosts, romance and adventure

Not a bad story dealing with death, love and ghosts. I enjoyed the journey the characters took and I liked the way the story played out for the most part. One problem I had was the love story for me it was too quick and wasn’t really believable so it kind of put a damper on the story for me.
Overall a good read, I just wish the romance was more believable.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ghost of Grimoire

Read Laura Hawks novel. The Ghost of Grimoire while on the plane, I just had to buy it. Totally fell in love with the Ghost just like the heroine Dani who was bequeathed the house with the Ghost included. Such a clever story with the Ghost Eli’s diary of accounts during his experience in the civil war. Written so well you could almost believe it’s a true Story. The argument between Dani and Eli the first day Dani take possession of her inheritance is rather comical as she reminds Eli he is a non entity and so not able to legally own anything, he feels this is his place and she is trespassing, it then becomes a battle of wits as Eli tries to scare stubborn Dani away, but Dani has her own reasons for not being able to leave. When Dani has trouble with her Ex, Eli becomes the hero and begins to protect Dani. Is it possible to fall in love with a handsome Ghost where there can be no possibility of touch? Well Laura has got that covered in a very clever way. This story really draws you in and you just hope something can happen to bring these two people together. Thanks Laura, loved it so much.
4.0 out of 5 stars Would’ve Given 5 Stars…..

But the editing was too sloppy. I’ve never considered myself to be especially good at grammar, but the more I read some of these kindle ebooks, the more I’m beginning to question that assumption….Perhaps I’ve missed my calling in life and should have been an editor;)??
I truly enjoyed this book though, in spite of the occasional typo. I loved the storyline and the in depth peaks into the ghosts past. I was also pleasantly surprised by the supernatural turn of events toward the end of the story. Who doesn’t enjoy a glimpse into the innerworkings of hell and its many levels?! Add to all of this a happy ending for the characters you’ve grown so fond of, and you’re left with an all around Great Read! I highly recommend to fans of the paranormal, Civil War history, and romance.
3.0 out of 5 stars History with a fantasy spin
on August 6, 2016
Format: Kindle Edition
The ghost of a civil war soldier and a modern woman with too big a heart from the other side of the country – recipe for desaster if I ever read one. But apart from being a bit long-winded, some unnecessary repetitions and not too believable stuff sometimes, it was interesting to read, especially his history (since I’m not from the US I don’t know very much about that time and it intrigued me). The unexpected spin at the end was a bit much to take but in itself interesting too (I am not quite sure you’d end up there if you are and believe as he is).

I found this to be a very intriguing story that I didn’t want to put down. If a ghost started taking to me I don’t think I would have handled it as well as Daniella did. The author tells Elliott’s story so well that you know his past was bad how bad is slowly told and makes you fall for him. The authors story line was so well done I enjoyed the most action packed parts and really loved the end.
5.0 out of 5 stars More like this.

I have shied away from this genre in recent years because it seems saturated with formulaic reads that are forever predictable. Faith has now been restored with this wonderful read from Laura Hawks. Loved the characters and thought the storyline was highly original. I’m hoping to read more like this.

I’m not sure what I expected from this book but I enjoyed this book very much. I love most things that have to do with ghosts so this book took me away. Dani and Eli were good characters and I think the story had me and held my attention very well. I would read more from this author and I don’t like many war books.
